The Lightning Thief

Next week we will be starting a whole class shared reading with the Lightning Thief. Some students have read this novel before. However, in class we will be working on the three different aspects of reading as we do activities involving fluency, accuracy and comprehension. We will also be doing daily writing with journal prompts. The students will be provided with a rubric and will be practicing grading themselves on the rubric. One key aspect of the rubric deals with restating the question. An important purpose for having students respond to their reading in complete, thought-out paragraphs is to help prepare them for Junior High. I'm excited to start this novel with the class and know that we will all learn a lot and have a ton of fun!
