Spelling/Vocabulary: Test was today. Students need to be sure to study their spelling words during the week. We've also started our new vocabulary log in class. Students should have 5 words, definitions, and sentences completely filled out on their log. Please check with your student to see if they have this completed.
Reading/Comprehension: We finished up our questioning unit and began our next strategy of focus: visualization. We had a lesson about our "sixth sense." Be sure to ask your student what it is. We also had a fun guest come to class and talk with us about movie making and how visualizing is like making a movie in our minds while we read. We have read through chapter 7 and into chapter 8 in the Lightning Thief. We had the chance to play Mrs. Talley's class in Capture the Flag like in the book. We also created our own Gods/Goddesses Cabin "U," complete with a hearth.
Writing: We continued to write in our Lightning Thief journals and create responses that we self-graded with the 6th grade rubric. Next week, we'll be working on some creative stories before starting Persuasive Writing.
