Friday, October 8th

We loved looking at the different Reflection pieces that were turned in by the students. They turned out wonderful!!

Math: We have been discussing multiplying decimals. Students saw how numbers got smaller when they were multiplied by a decimal and we talked about how it is part of a whole. They have come up with very unique strategies for multiplying decimals. I was very impressed with their thinking. We will continue to practice this next week.

Social Studies: We learned about the gift of the Nile and how it could also be a curse as well. Students will be Mummifying Stuffed Animals on October 22 with Miss Thompson's first grade class. If able, students should bring in a stuffed animal and a shoe box. (The stuffed animal will by operated on so it is best if a favorite one is not sent).

Science: We reviewed and tested on Seasons. Next week Mrs. Talley will begin teaching the students about heat, light, and sound properties.

Spelling/Vocabulary: We reviewed and studied a lot this week for our vocabulary test. The students took the test today. The scores will be posted on SIS by Monday. Enjoy a week off from Spelling this next week! :)

Reading: This week we continued to study Monitoring for Meaning as a comprehension strategy. We practiced meeting in guided reading groups as we completed a shared reading from an excerpt of the book "The Mozart Season." Next week we'll finish up Monitoring for Meaning and introduce guided reading groups! I'm looking forward to reading wonderful books with the students!

Writing: Most students finished up their Personal Narratives and spent time reviewing them one last time and then free writing this week. Special thanks to Mrs. Heaps and Mrs. Hendron for helping complete chief edits! Soon we will be starting an exciting new unit on a surprise topic!
